Gutter Cleaning Questions, Answered

What does gutter cleaning cost in Richmond?
Most single-story homes around Richmond land in the $150–$250 range; two-story homes generally run $200–$400, depending on roof height, total footage, and how much has built up. You will get a firm number before we start — call (804) 701-4759 for a free estimate.
Prices here are indicative for Richmond-area homes, not a quote. The binding figure follows an assessment of the property.
How often should Richmond gutters be cleaned?
Twice a year — spring and fall — suits most homes here. If you are under heavy oak or pine cover, a third pass in late fall after the drop is worth it.
Do you handle two-story and steep-roof homes?
Yes. We are equipped and insured for taller homes and steeper, more complex rooflines.
Are you insured?
Yes — fully insured, so the ladder and roof work is never your liability.
Do you take the debris with you?
Always. Everything we pull out gets bagged and hauled off. We leave the property clean.
Will you clean over gutter guards?
Yes. We clean on top of and underneath guard systems without damaging them.
How long does a cleaning take?
Most homes run 45 minutes to a couple of hours depending on size, height, and how clogged things are.
Which areas do you cover?
Richmond and the surrounding communities — Henrico, Chesterfield, Glen Allen, Short Pump, Midlothian, Mechanicsville, Tuckahoe, Bon Air, Lakeside, and out to Hanover and Ashland.
Booking and access
Do I need to be home?
No. We work entirely outside. We need access to gates on both sides and somewhere stable to set a ladder — tell us if anything is locked or if a dog is in the yard.
How soon can you come?
Usually within the week. Late autumn is our busiest stretch, so book ahead if you want a specific date.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain we work through. Heavy rain or lightning and we reschedule, and you hear from us that morning rather than finding out when nobody turns up.
Do you work in winter?
Yes, and it is a good time here — the trees are bare, so what we clear stays cleared. We stop for ice on the roof or the ladder.
Can you work with a tenant in place?
Yes. We do not need interior access. Landlords are a good share of our work and we send photo documentation after each visit.
How often, and when
How often do Richmond gutters need doing?
It depends on what is overhead. Hardwood canopy means twice a year. Loblolly pine means three. An open lot with young landscaping often manages on one. The full answer is on our frequency guide.
Why do you push a spring visit?
Willow oak, which is the dominant street tree across Henrico and the older city neighborhoods, drops catkins and fine litter in spring as well as leaves in autumn. The spring material packs downspout outlets more effectively than autumn leaves.
When is the best single date if I only book once?
Early September is often better than late November if you have real tree cover, because it puts you ahead of the tropical-remnant downpours that arrive as the first leaves drop.
Is pine really that different?
Yes. Needles shed continuously rather than seasonally, and they mat into a felt that water runs across rather than through — so a trough can look half full and still be shedding water over the edge.
What it costs
What does gutter cleaning cost in Richmond?
$150 to $250 single story, $200 to $400 two story, $350 to $600+ for larger properties. Everything is published on the cost page.
Is that a quote or an estimate?
A quote. Once we have seen the property the number does not move. If we find something genuinely unexpected we stop and talk to you first.
Why is one quote half the price of another?
Usually because one of them is not clearing the roof, not verifying the downspouts at the discharge end, or not removing the debris. Those are the three corners that get cut.
Is a schedule cheaper?
Yes, roughly 10 to 15% below single-visit pricing, because maintained gutters never reach the hard stage.
How we actually do it
Do you clear the downspouts as well?
On every standard visit, and we verify flow at the discharge end rather than just running water in the top.
Do you clear the roof too?
On homes with real canopy it is the sensible order — valleys and chimney backs first, gutters after.
Will your ladder damage my gutters?
No. We use standoff stabilizers so the ladder never rests on the gutter. Ladder damage is one of the most common repairs we get called out for, usually caused by whoever cleaned it last.
Where does the debris go?
Off the property. Not into the beds, not a pile by the driveway, not over the fence.
Do you handle two-story and steep rooflines?
Yes, and we are insured for it. If a section is genuinely unsafe to reach we will tell you rather than take a risk, and we will say exactly what we could not do.
Guards, repairs and limits
Do you clean gutter guards?
Yes. We service them and do not sell them, which means we have no reason to tell you your system is failing when it is not.
Can you do repairs at the same time?
Usually, for small things — resealing, hangers, refitting a downspout. It saves a separate trip charge and we quote before touching anything.
Do you install gutters?
No, deliberately. We clean, maintain and repair. Not selling installations is what makes our advice about whether you need them worth something.
What about built-in or box gutters on older homes?
Generally a roofing trade rather than ours. We will tell you plainly and point you at the right person rather than improvise.
Are you insured?
Yes, general liability, and a certificate naming your entity is available before the first visit.
What if I am not happy?
Tell us and we come back. No forms, no window, no conditions attached.
